  • Notes
    • From the Brown-Trowbridge Family Genealogy Book, "When about fifteen years of age, John went to Pennsylvania. After his marriage he lived in Wilkes Barre, PA about six years and then moved to Tunkhannock, PA and from there to Windham Township in the same count, Wyoming. He there bought a piece of woodland, built a log house and cleared a farm. He was engaged in farming there the remainder of his life. John was a soldier in the Civil War, stating his age as younger than he was in order to be allowed to enlist; he was mustered out March 30, 1864, into cCompany K 143rd P. Infantry. He continued in the service until he was taken ill, when he was discharged in July 1864. While living in Wilkes Barre, when he first came to Pennsylvania, he worked for General Sterling Ross for nearly ten years. He boarded at Josiah Brown's boarding house there and this is where he met and fell in love with Anna Brown."
