The Banker family, one of the oldest in Susquehanna County, PA settles on the border line between Liberty and Great Bend Townships in the latter part of the eighteenth century after first settling near Oakland and Susquehanna, PA. Because of numerous Indian raids the leaders decided to move farther down the river and inland a few miles where they could seek a more peaceful existence.
George Banker, pioneer of the family in this locality, was born in Sleepy Hollow in 1765.
